Effingham knock Chobham out of the cup
Effingham 1st XI v Chobham 1st XI
Fuller’s Brewery Surrey County League Cup – 1st Round
Chobham batted first and their openers struggled on a slow, low wicket. However, with three wickets down, Monk came to the crease and crafted a well put together 88 until he was dismissed with the score on 153-4. The remaining batsmen only managed to score a further 18, slowly lifting the total to 171 all out.
The collapse was mainly down to Rob Gibbon’s 4-25, including a hat-trick, and Dom Brown picked up 3 wickets for 22.
Effingham started a little hesitantly, as the pitch was still somewhat problematical. The first three batsmen – Cameron Walters, Jake White and Harrison Green – only amassed 26 between them before Matt Dixon came to the wicket and steadied the innings. Two further wickets fell which brought captain Adam Burlison in to join Dixon and the pair put on 52 runs for the 6th wicket. Dixon was eventually out for 52 and Burlison scored 42.
Two more quick wickets brought the final pairing of Mal Russell and Mike Fenwick together with 16 still needed for victory. A couple of boundaries calmed the nerves and they both saw Effingham over the line and into the next round, with a rewarding win by one wicket, with plenty of overs to spare.
