U15 Season Report
The Under 15s initially had 9 Fixtures planned for this season and whilst we would like to have had a bigger pool of players, the Coach was confident that with the occasional and much appreciated loan from the U13s, we would be able to compete in all the matches.
Josh Farrell was seeing a core of enthusiastic players attending his Thursday nets practices, several of those had attended the winter nets and were showing a real commitment to the club. At the weekly nets sessions, we saw a steady coming together of the group, there was a gradual improvement in their ability and reading of the game which was a key discipline that Josh was determined to focus on.
The team got off to a good start with a first match win against Whiteley Village, though it was apparent that the opposition had struggled to put a team together. This was a taste of things to come with several opposing clubs frustratingly having to call games off due to lack of players.Out of the 9 scheduled matches, 4 were called off predominantly down to opposing teams struggling to find players.
The U15s managed two wins but the boys fought hard to stay afloat in the 3 they lost. Perhaps the key recognition we should give to the U15s this year is the contribution they will hopefully make to the future of the club. Many of the players have had the opportunity to support the Seniors over the season and will some became regular fixtures in both the 2nd XI and Sunday sides who gained promotion.

U13 Season Report
The U13 season was always going to be challenging one with the squad reduced to two players, Noah and Finlay, and a fixture card of 11 matches. We are thankful to our keen U12 squad who ensured that we had full teams for every match. Despite playing in the Development league, the opposition quite often contained that clubs better players. Our boys did not shirk the challenge and all matches were played in a competitive manner with many close results. Sadly we were disappointed by late cancellations for several matches.
Our U13s improved through playing with their well drilled younger team mates and were able to put in some good performances, and also to benefit from regular Friday night training sessions at the club with our coaches and the Ambassadors. The maturity now being shown by the boys bodes well for next season and beyond. The game against Merrow was an excellent match with some defining moments for the season. In his first game as wicketkeeper, Justyn Moore put his body on the line several times on a lively pitch and then batted well to get a not out and his top score. Tidy bowling and good fielding by everyone produced a very close result.
In every game, our captains made sure that everybody got to bowl and bat, and the performances improved as a result. We look forward to another competitive season in 2018.

U12 Season Report
The U12 season has been highly successful on a number of levels. All fixtures were league games in the WYSCL, mainly against bigger clubs, with aspirations. The team finished second to Horsley and Send, winning 6 from 7 games.
The key to their success is undoubtedly a depth of talent and an ability to play every game right to the last ball. There were several games that in the past would have got away from us, but invariably, the team stuck in there, and someone would turn in a game defining performance. The game against Maori Oxshott was a classic example. Oxshott were heavily dependent on 3 classy bowlers, who had us 3 down for almost nothing, but a series of sensible partnerships got us to a competitive score. In the field, we then bowled straight for the full 20 overs, caught everything and affected run outs. The team is rightly proud of their ability to squeeze a game.
In every game, new, younger or less experienced players took part, and always either bowled or batted. Making sure everyone has an opportunity to be involved is another tradition that the team upholds proudly.
Lastly, while there is some real natural talent in the age group, it was very noticeable how much extra practice the boys were doing, organising nets at the club, playing indoor cricket over winter and in particular, their love of fielding practice with ambassadors. Individual performances reflected this self improvement, but probably the most satisfying was the standard of fielding. During one period, the team went 3 games without dropping a catch and affecting several game changing run outs. Fielding is the true measure of how together a cricket team really is.
We are looking forward to another successful and enjoyable season next year and keeping the “band” together for another world tour (of West Surrey) next season.

U9 Season Report
This team was only formed a few months before the beginning of the season, and consisted mainly of kids that have never even really played cricket before, including two very green managers!!
From day 1 the team had a great feel about it and with the support of those around us we were ready for the season. We only played 8 of our 11 games due to other teams cancelling and unfortunately were not able to rearrange. We finished 10th out of 12 with our only win of the season against West End, Esher!!! We had to double check the scores at the end and only won by 2 runs, but it was well deserved. I think that was the weekend all the Effingham teams won?
Despite losing more games than we won, everyone always came of the field with a smile on their face and they were always keen to be in the team for the next game. There has been a great team spirit this season on an off the field by both the players and the parents, so thanks everyone and I am sure with this strong spirit (and the help of Ed Cooper and the Ambassadors) this will help us to go on and improve next season. We would like to thank Ed for giving up his time and knowledge to help get this team off the ground and please make sure you are back in time to help us again pre-season!!
