Effingham see off Englefield Green in final over
Effingham 2nd XI v Englefield Green 2nd XI
Fullers County League – 3rd Division
Effingham’s 2nd XI completed an exciting last over win at home to Englefield Green to make it a 40-point Bank Holiday Saturday.
Effingham won the toss and elected to field. The Englefield Green innings progressed steadily and two substantial partnerships of 48 for the third wicket and 43 for the seventh, helped the visitors to reach 192 all out. Asim Iqbal, who bowled with his usual accuracy and finished with 4 for 18 from his 9 overs, was well supported by Rob Gibbons who took 3 for 21, also from 9 overs.
At 26-2, Effingham’s innings needed a confidence boosting partnership and that was supplied by Asim Iqbal, with an accomplished 63, and captain Gareth Amer, 47 (including 9 fours), who between them, put on 116 for the third wicket to put the E’s in control. Two more partnerships of 24 each, which included an excellent debut 32 from 13 year old Harry Mead, took the home side within 5 runs of victory, which was achieved without further loss to record an Effingham win by 5 wickets.
