Burlison and White lead Effingham to win over Putney
Effingham 1st XI v Putney 1st XI
Fuller’s Brewery Surrey County League – 2nd Division
Having been asked to bat first, Putney started slowly with only 26 runs on the board after 10 overs. The pace gradually picked up and at the 25th over drinks break, their score had moved on to 79-1. Wickets then fell at a steady rate, mainly due to captain Adam Burlison taking 5-69 in his one spell of 15 overs, and Putney finished on 181-8dec., with Jordan Bond putting in an immaculate performance behind the stumps.
Josh White (2-35) and Asim Iqbal (1-32) both kept things tight in each of their 12 overs, while Matt Dixon gave very little away with only 10 runs scored from his four overs.
Effingham set about their target needing four runs an over for victory. An unfortunate run out in the first over had little effect on the home side, who patiently built a 60 partnership for the 2nd wicket. At 150-2, a comfortable win looked possible, but four quick wickets delayed any celebrations until Effingham reached 182-6 to win by 4 wickets. Jake White top scored with a stubborn 80 and he shared a 91 partnership for the 3rd wicket with Mark Collin, who made an impressive 46.
A valuable 20 points that lifted Effingham towards the top of the table.
