Mini Cooper takes 4 for 6 as Effingham topple Wandgas
Wandgas 2nd XI v Effingham 2nd XI
Fuller’s Brewery Surrey County League – 3rd Division
After a delayed start, due to an extremely heavy downpour, Effingham put together a reasonable score of 169-5 dec., with opener Asim Iqbal being dismissed in the 42nd over, for a well-constructed 75. His opening partner, Cameron Walters, shared the first wicket stand of 52, before he was bowled for 22.
Gareth Amer at No.4, scored a useful 16, which helped lift the score into the 80’s and when Mal Russell arrived at the crease, at the fall of the 4th wicket, he decided that it was time to increase the run rate, scoring a rapid 32 not out from just 18 balls, which certainly helped in setting the home side a target of 170 to win.
Wandgas started their innings very slowly, pegged back mainly by 16 year-old Alex Cooper, whose first spell of six overs cost just two runs! Another 16 year-old, Joe Roberts, also kept the runs down with 2-27 off eight overs and he was well supported by Effingham’s third 16 year-old, Ben Windsor, with 2-11 from his five overs. With the home side’s score on 48-4, Alex Cooper returned to the attack and struck straight away, clean bowling Wandgas’ No.6. The young Cooper’s second spell produced an amazing four wickets for four runs in 17 balls and his final figures were four wickets for six runs off 8.5 overs; this left the home side all out for 94, enabling Effingham to collect the 20 points for a 75 run win.
