16 year old Harrison Green hits an excellent 100 for Effingham

When Effingham are at home to neighbours Bookham, there is always an extra bit of rivalry, as the teams know each other so well. That also increases the friendship both on and off the field, and this contest was no exception.

Batting first, Effingham’s openers put on 123 before Asim Iqbal was out for 43. That left 16 year old Harrison Green to take control and he shared a 69 partnership with captain Ed Cooper (34), skippering the team in the absence of injured Adam Burlison. The second wicket brought Chris Fewson to the wicket and he helped add another 29 for the 3^rd wicket, during which Harrison Green scored his second hundred for Effingham, finishing with an outstanding 116 not out.

With a total of 227-3 declared, the home side had set a target that meant Bookham had to get off to a good start.

With only five runs on the board, opening bowler Ian Barnard struck, and when the second and third wickets fell with the score on 32, it put the visitors on the defensive. Darren Wing showed some resistance with a stubborn 17, before being bowled by Dom Brown and a partnership of 33 for the sixth wicket indicated a mini recovery. However, Dom Brown had other ideas and his 4 wickets for 6 runs off 9 overs prevented Bookham making any progress, although they managed to hold out for a draw, finishing on 103-8.
