Effingham 1st XI defeat John Fisher
John Fisher (Croydon Community) 1st XI .v. Effingham 1st XI
Fuller’s Brewery Surrey County League – 2nd Division
Having raised their game in the last few matches to claim second place in the table, Effingham’s 1st XI set off for this game, anticipating another victory. Batting first on the Croydon Postal ground, they made an encouraging start, reaching 43 before the first wicket fell. Jake White (23) and Harrison Green (31) had provided a good platform for Ed Cooper (61) and Chris Fewson (69) to continue, and they made the most of it with a well-built partnership of 117 for the fourth wicket. Two more useful scores from Cameron Walters (8 not out) and Nick Bond (12 not out), meant that their unbroken partnership of 22 took Effingham’s total to 227-7 declared.
Josh White and Dom Brown opened the bowling for the visitors and claimed four quick wickets with only 43 on the board. Dom Brown took two of the wickets for 21 runs and was credited with a run-out, while Josh White picked up one for 33. A short stand of 25 was looking promising for the hosts, but 16 year old Alex Cooper came on and bowled really well to finish with 3-11 in six overs. This left the home team on 89-8 and with only 10 men, the end came quickly at 94 all out, Effingham winning by 133 runs, claiming another valuable 20 points to keep them in the hunt for promotion for the second year running.
