Fuller’s Brewery Surrey County League – 2nd Division
Effingham 2nd XI .v. Ham & Petersham 2nd XI
An opening partnership of 54 got Ham & Petersham off to a solid start, which set them on their way to a challenging total. Effingham used seven bowlers in an attempt to keep the score under control, but five of the top six in the visitors’ batting order all got valuable runs. With the scoreboard reading 199-5, Effingham were anticipating chasing a total in excess of 250. Cricket being as unpredictable as ever, ten runs later, eight wickets were down after a run-out and two quick wickets for Adam Iqbal. However, the bowling credits go to Ollie Tebbitts with 3-20 in 11 overs, including 4 maidens, which was a major contribution in restricting the visitors to a total of 212.
The priority for Effingham was obviously a good opening stand and that was exactly what Adam Iqbal and Joel Stroud provided. 85 for the first wicket was a perfect start, but at 105-3, Josh Farrell joined Joel Stroud to try and avoid any signs of a collapse. They took the score on in a partnership that gave Joel Stroud the sight of his first century. A couple more wickets fell, including Joel Stroud’s for an excellent 116 and Josh Farrell finished with 21 not out to see Effingham reach their target of 213, to win by 5 wickets.
