U13s unbeaten run comes to an end
So, our unbeaten run in the indoor competition since last season has come to an end. We were probably not at our bet against the T20 Academy and after batting first, made an under par 98-4. Raymond (27) and Sam Partridge starred with the bat but found it difficult going, especially against a couple of spinners, who bowled with good control. Only one of the T20 bowlers was a little wayward with his direction, whereas the rest bowled accurately and we had to accumulate most of our runs with well-judged singles. The last 2 overs were an opportunity to set a decent score but it never came and we knew we knew we would have to bowl well if we were going to win.
In the previous matches Sam Partridge had been pretty much unplayable, and given away very few runs with his bowling. This was perhaps his off-day and the T20 batsmen punished him. The other boys bowled fairly well, especially Joshua Spencer, but the wickets never looked likely to come. Both T20 openers made 25 before retiring, so it was always an uphill battle from then on. However, a couple of good overs brought us back into it and if the trend had continued we might have sneaked it. Perhaps the pressure of the situation suddenly made us a little ragged and some silly overthrows quickly snuffed out our chances, allowing T20 to take few risks and accumulate the required singles without too much trouble by the end of the 11th over. It was also apparent that none of the boys wanted to rise and seize the moment for the team, with most opting not to want to bowl at the death.
We go again this Sunday 12th November against top of the table Weybridge Purple in the 6.50pm game.
