Colts Into Indoor Final
Effingham’s colts indoor team brushed aside Leatherhead Lions on Sunday evening to set up next week’s final against Twenty 20 A.
The game was not as one-sided as the scorecard would suggest as the colts gave away too many wides which must be improved upon if Effingham are to be crowned champions next week.
Ray (1 wicket), Sam Cobb and Elliot (2 wickets apiece) all bowled well and Ollie Nicholl took two good catches behind the stumps. Sam C also demonstrated his fielding prowess with a level-headed run-out. Leatherhead scored few runs off the bat, with 45 extras contributing to their total score of 77. Some astute captaincy by Sam P saw him utilise the stronger bowlers effectively throughout the game.
In reply, Ray was bowled early on and Sam P and Sam C had to negotiate some impressive bowling from Leatherhead. Having show good resilience at the crease, Sam P took full advantage of Leatherhead’s weaker bowlers, eventually retiring after an impressive knock of 28 off 25 balls, including two sixes. Lucas was 7 not out at the end after Sam C was run out and Effingham sealed victory in the 9th over. Leatherhead’s bowlers were still tidy, only giving away 27 extras in their innings.
Effingham’ side will have a tough final next Sunday but, if they get their basics right, there is every chance this talented side could be crowned indoor champions.
