Mayor visits ECC as we support Commoners Day
A very successful Effingham Commoners Day was held today, with nearly 500 people enjoying the Autumn sunshine. Effingham Cricket Club was on hand to provide refreshments and hopefully make a few more friends along the way, including the recently elected Councillor Gordon Jackson, Mayor of Guildford, who enjoyed a pint of bitter at the bar.
A big thank you to all of those people who provided cakes, a fantastic variety that got many compliments from the villagers. Special thanks to Nadine Stroud and Kate Tebbitts for their hard work selling hot drinks and cakes, and to Ray Pritchard, Club President, for his usual Ambassador role chatting to all of our guests.
We had some playing enquiries during the day, but two special ones are worthwhile noting. A gentleman of 70 years old asked if we have a veterans team, and a young man who was celebrating his 4th birthday was very keen to know how he could start playing cricket. They will both be along for the 2017 season, although the older gentleman’s wife might restrict him to the bar.
Regards,
Paul Stroud
Chairman, Effingham CC
