Another Night To Remember At Effingham Cricket Club
By Dave Roberts
Nobody expected to be playing cricket this season. Covid-19 seemed to have put paid to any ideas of strapping on the pads. It was going to be a long, boring summer. Then things changed – the rules around grass roots sport were relaxed, the cricket organisers in Surrey snapped into action.
A T20 tournament was arranged and clubs from all over the area entered. Cricket was back and we were all going to take advantage!
Effingham entered two teams in the T20 tournament and the main team has reached finals day and has high hopes of picking up a trophy. Our regular Saturday and Sunday Teams in the Fuller’s League and VCL Tournaments were over subscribed, there just wasn’t enough cricket for all those that wanted to play, but Effingham is a club that encourages participation and everybody got to play some cricket.
In celebration of the season, Effingham held a Socially Distanced awards night last Friday where our star performers and outstanding individuals were honoured by their friends and colleagues at the club. It was a great finish to the season that very nearly didn’t happen, and wouldn’t have happened without the continued support of our sponsors.
A huge thanks to everybody at Mundays and the Team at Eden Utilities for their support this season. Without people like Mundays and Eden Utilities it is difficult to see how Effingham CC could have survived let alone actually played cricket this season.
Your support is much appreciated.
