Effingham Colts still in with a shout
The Effingham Colts indoor team go into the January break sitting joint top with only four games to go after brushing aside Leatherhead last night. Perhaps I am being unreasonably critical, but I am still waiting for our very capable batsmen to explode and really exert their dominance. That said, Raymond got us off to a good start with 20 off 12 balls and Sam Cobb (21) and Lucas (19) again showed us how to accumulate efficiently, but regular wickets kept falling and if it were not for Leatherhead’s undisciplined bowling (48 in wides and no balls) then the game would have been much tighter.
The boys knew that if they bowled well, Leatherhead would get nowhere near us. Lucas and Sam C have really stepped up their game with the ball and I am looking forward to seeing them bowling at the Calburn next summer. Sam in particular bowls a great length and it is no surprise that he is the leading wicket taker indoors this season. With only 18 given away in bowling extras, Leatherhead’s brave batsmen applied themselves well but just could not score the runs at a rate that would give them a chance. Ray took the first wicket from a Sam C catch that rattled around the ceiling rafters a few times, then after a retirement Leatherhead’s dominoes fell with two wickets for Sam C and one for Sam P. Ollie Nicholl provided the finish with an easy throw for a run out and Leatherhead finished with 75.
