A Solid Bowling Performance Indoors
The Effingham Colts Indoor team comfortably beat Leatherhead on Sunday thanks to a very consistent bowling performance all round.
Our batting performance perhaps wasn’t at its best with Raymond, Sam P and Sam S all being dismissed for low scores. However, there were two fairly controversial decisions made by the umpire; one for a caught behind where it looked like a bump ball on top of the fact there was no appeal, and a run out where Sam S certainly looked to have run in his grounded bat before the stumps were hit. Although disappointed, the boys had to accept the decisions and I was pleased that they brushed it aside to get on with the game.
Josh started to open his shoulders and attack any bad balls, but then he too was gone from a quite unexpected one-handed catch and we found ourselves having to play with a little more caution with only 2 wickets left. Lucas (28*) and Sam C (9*) did this excellently, but it was the strange decision of Leatherhead to use their weakest bowler to bowl the final over that left us scratching our heads. We profited by 25 runs in that over which included 4 wides and accelerated our score to a very respectable 129-4 off 12.
The key to this game is to not bowl wides. Although we did not run though the Leatherhead line up with many wickets, the boys all bowled an excellent consistent line making scoring difficult. This was backed up by some excellent wicketkeeping from Sam S. Lucas, Ray and Sam C bowled no wides at all, and it was Sam C that really stood out. He was rewarded at the end with a wicket and a great run out whilst on the floor. Leatherhead finished on 61-2 to maintain Effingham’s unbeaten record and fourth win on the trot. We sit joint top with Weybridge who have played an extra game than us so far. There are still plenty of game to come though.
