Street Child United
A Message from one or our Alumni, Clive Couzens:
“Street Child United (https://www.streetchildunited.org/) has run three football Street Child World Cups ahead of the last three FIFA World Cups, the most recent in Moscow in May, as well as a ‘Games’ in Rio. They have been successful in raising awareness of and indeed resolving problems faced by well over 100 million street children around the world. Problems like violence, lack of identification documents, lack of education. Have a look at the attached document which highlights some of the effects of a previous competition.
Next year a cricket World Cup will be held in London, with a final at Lord’s. The (mixed) teams will come from places such as India, Pakistan, Nepal, Tanzania and DR Congo, as well as a team of young people in care in England. There will also be an arts event, and a Congress at which the young people will have a chance to voice their needs and concerns. Sir John Major is Patron of the event. If you get the chance, listen to the tea interval interview on Test Match Special (BBC) next Friday 7thSeptember, the first day of the Oval Test match.
Naturally this all costs money, so on October 29thI, together with some others from SCU and MCC, will be sleeping out at Lord’s as part of the CEO Sleepout which raises money for a variety of homelessness projects.
