Effingham U13s Stalking Indoor League Leaders
As expected the Effingham indoor cricket side secured victory over bottom of the table Weybridge Junior. However, our performance was a little casual at times and our focus could have been better. This, however, allowed for an entertaining game where Weybridge could have got closer to our score if it weren’t for some good individual performances.
Raymond and Sam P batted well to start off our innings, but on nearing their retirement scores they played with a little too much freedom and were caught out. In spite of a solid bowling performance from Weybridge, and I don’t quite understand why they have not won a match yet, we scored at a good run rate. Following the fall of the two wickets, Effingham needed someone to keep the scoring going, and that is exactly what Sam Spencer did. He played his best innings of the season and hit three great 6’s in his 34. Sam C, Lucas and Joshua all contributed and should not be too disappointed as they help the team achieve a season high score of 136 all out.
It was the fielding that we perhaps did not excel at with a casual one-handed drop to note and some unnecessary boundaries and overthrows. The focus we had the previous week was so much better and we perhaps did not pull together as a team so well. That said, our wides tally were half that of Weybridge, and for me, Lucas was the standout performer with the ball and in the field. Weybridge kept the entertainment up with some runs from their 1 and 4 batsmen, but once they retired, the big hits ceased and they finished on 113-2. Raymond and Sam P took the wickets with catches from Sam P and Sam S.
With none of the top three slipping up, the title could be decided on run rate with only a few games to play.
