U13s off the mark in indoor league
We took on the other Weybridge side on Sunday evening, and as usual chose to field again with a view to the preference of knowing what sort of target to chase. Sam Partridge bowled with great pace and was unlucky not to take more than his 2 wickets. Lucas Townend also struck early, and Weybridge were in danger of being blown away at 19-3. When Raymond Wing took the 4th wicket with the score on 39 from a fine catch behind by Sam Spencer, it looked almost over but Weybridge dug deep and their last 2 batsmen managed to build some sort of respectable total and after 12 overs their score finished on 89-5.
A run rate of 7.5 per over was needed which meant that a win for Effingham was by no means a formality. The early dismissal of Raymond gave some concern, but Sam Partridge (14*) and Sam Cobb (21*) pretty much went about their business without taking too many risks. There were no boundaries, but some well timed singles, and the bonus of some wides and no balls from Weybridge took us comfortably to the target off 9.1 overs.
The next game is on Sunday 29 October against Epsom.
