Effingham U11s VS Hampton U11s
Effingham remain unbeaten after a fairly straightforward win against Hampton on Friday. Hampton batted first and struggled with the notable tight bowling from Callum, Sam and Raymond. Again our fielding, and most importantly our team work and field placings, were key in restricting the batsmen. Callum started the ball rolling with a sharp low catch in the deep off Raymond, and then Sam rounded off a deadly over claiming a first seen LBW decision. Joshua also bowled tidily, but William was perhaps this time unable to find his usual accuracy; being guilty of trying to bowl too fast. Samuel kept up his good run with the ball after relinquishing the gloves, claiming the final two wickets, with Hampton being dismissed for 71 of 13.3 overs.
A careful approach was perhaps required for the reply, but we were given an early wake-up call with Sam being run out for 1. Joshua and William looked settled and kept things ticking over. However, William then decided to play some shots, and although none of the chances he presented Hampton with were particularly easy, he was dropped six times. The most spectacular was one close to the back wall were the unlucky fielder managed to parry the ball over for a six. After Joshua was harshly bowled off a ball keeping very low, Raymond and William took us home with 5 overs remaining for us to claim the win with maximum bonus points.
We are now clear winners of the league, but to claim the title we still have to win the finals night play off on Friday 24 March. Our final league game is on Friday 17 March against Weybridge.
Kind regards,
Darren Wing
