Effingham U11 vs Hampton
Junior Indoor League – Match Report
Hampton gave us a more testing game on Friday, but some cool heads saw us home with a comfortable win in the end.
A couple of withdrawals meant that the Effingham team comprised entirely of Priory Prep boys from years 6 and one from year 5. Hampton batted first and got off to a reasonable start, helped by a little wayward bowling. Hampton’s Haden played nicely striking some lovely straight drives, but neither of the batmen were no able to release the shackles due to some fine Effingham fielding. Raymond Wing switching himself to keep wicket after 5 overs in was a masterstoke as he anticipated the ball well and produced a sharp stumping. The ever dependable William B bowled accurately and he was superbly backed up by Leo and William Y. Samuel also got in on the act with a wicket and catch. Hampton finished with a slightly underpar 109-4 in 15 overs.
Our response from Raymond (18) and Callam (25*) was destructive and within 5 overs we had scored more than half the runs. Callam smashed 3 hard 6’s before retiring and Raymond should have reached his retirement score if he hadn’t swiped at a poor short ball that he spooned up for a simple catch. Samuel (4) then caused some alarm with an indecisive run and was stranded whilst his bails were removed. However, Leo (4*) and William Y (17*) put together a very mature and composed partnership to coast home with 3 overs to spare with little risk and the need to attack.
Our next game is 20 January against Deando Ruxley. Weybridge are our closest rivals, whom we now play on 3 February.
