Effingham U11 vs Ewell
Junior Indoor League – Match Report
Last Friday, the Effingham U11 indoor league team were given a far more testing game against the newly named Ewell CC side than expected. Although still winless, Ewell bowled and fielded very well to restrict our run rate and capture the early wickets of Raymond (9) and Callum (9). However, William B (27) seized the initiative to strike the ball with power, and with Sam (28), they put us in to a much more comfortable position. William’s strike rate was an impressive 192.86 off 14 balls. Wickets fell with regularity and Joshua weighed in with a quick 11, including a nicely struck 6. It was a relief that we were able to face just about all 15 overs in making a score of 149-6 (all out).
Callum perhaps had an off day with the ball, and although he was notably the quickest bowler on show, he struggled with his line. Raymond on the other hand, produced probably his best bowling performance capturing 2 wickets and only giving away 2 wides in his 3 over spell. But again, the dependable William bowled a superb line and length, making it very difficult to score against, and by now Ewell were well behind the required run rate. Sam, Joshua and Samuel all contributed with the ball, and the whole team marshalled by Raymond, kept it tight by rotating positions and bowlers without any signs of weakness. Ewell only lost 3 wickets, but their score of 93 was well short of the target, and we completed our 6th straight win.
We now have to face Weybridge on Friday 3 February, and then again on 17 March, with these games deciding the league champions. Weybridge so far have only lost once to us. Please could I have the availabilities for this game.
A date for your diary is Friday 24 March. This is the finals evening where we will have to compete in the playoffs to qualify for the final (2 games if we qualify).
Kind regards,
Darren Wing
