Swiss U11’s win on the last ball against valiant Effingham
Effingham U 11’s v Switzerland’s National U 11 touring side
On Sunday 8th May 2016, Effingham’s under 11’s entertained a National under 11 touring side from Switzerland. The Swiss U 11’s were on their last day of a tour, playing 6 games in four days in the Surrey area.
Batting first, Effingham U 11’s scored 128, losing only two wickets in their 20 overs. Three boys, Harry Amer, Isaac Keay and Jake Raffaelli, batted well to reach their permitted 20 before retiring – Jake’s innings included two sixes! Other notable scores came from Raymond Wing with 13 and Thomas Stratten with 12.
The Swiss U 11’s started well and like Effingham, only lost two wickets in reaching the 100 mark, with four boys retiring after reaching 20. The Swiss team continued to keep the runs flowing, but with only 6 runs needed in the last over, things got very tense when two run-outs brought the scores level for the last ball.
In a nail-biting finish, somehow, the Swiss U 11’s managed to scramble the single required to win a most enjoyable and exciting game by one run.
Effingham Cricket Club are very keen to increase the membership of their under 11’s and under 12’s. For further details, please contact Martin Keay – 07525 497512.
