U13s v Sunbury
Effingham U13 v Sunbury on Sunday 1st July
The U13 team faced a good Sunbury team yesterday on a very hot morning. The hard outfield meant a high scoring match was likely and Sunbury had some accomplished batsmen who scored well. That said, our fielding was outstanding with Lucas and Thomas standing out. We managed to take 4 wickets including a brace for Isaac Keay’s spin with identical catches at gully by Ciaran, in Sunbury’s total of 168-4 off their 20 overs.
They high target was a big ask, but this game was entertaining as we never gave up with some regular scoring throughout in our eventual total of 129-9. Right from the word go, Raymond hit probably the best two shots of the match, but then was cleverly bowled with a slower ball. Sam Cobb and Sam Partridge then put on a nice partnership with some sensible batting to keep the momentum going. Once they were dismissed, we did lose regular wickets, but the runs still flowed, mainly due to the continuing impressive form of Thomas. Whilst he was poised to reach his first ever retirement score, there was a shout of “one more Tom”. You can guess what happened next!
Sunbury had good depth to their bowling and deserved their win, but were denied taking all 10 of Effingham’s wickets with Justyn and Joey bravely fending off some fast bowling at the end. The scorecard is attached, and thanks to Alan for doing the scoring to allow me to enter the records for our boys.
