Thames Ditton Taken Down by Table Toppers
Thames Ditton 1st XI .v. Effingham 1st XI
Sat.20th May 2017 – Fuller’s Brewery Surrey County League – 1st Division
Enjoying equal top spot in Division One of the Fullers League, Effingham fielded first, but watched their opponents get off to a brisk start with 20 on the board in the first three overs. Much needed tighter bowling checked the run rate and wickets began to fall, although Thames Ditton’s opener, Dixon, kept the score moving with a timely 67. With the fall of his wicket at 107-4, Effingham’s bowlers took control and the home side were dismissed for 155. The bowling honours went to Josh White, who finished with 4-32 in 9 overs, Charlie Forbes took 4-30 in 8 overs and Nick Procter picked up 2-27 in his nine overs.
Losing an early wicket following a very delayed LBW decision was not part of the plan, but a stand of 79 between Tahir Latif and Nick Procter set Effingham on their way. Latif made a very accomplished 25 and after his departure, Nick Procter continued to strike the ball to all parts of the ground for a well earned 59. Mark Collin (30 not out) and Chris Adlam (19 not out), shared an unbroken 51 partnership to give Effingham a comfortable 7 wicket victory to maintain their position at the top of the table.
